Plants are just like people and live happy lives in different conditions however too much or too little light can lead to sun burnt or dull leaves which is a common issue plant parents encounter. Photosynthesis is the chemical reaction between light, carbon dioxide and water which provides the necessary energy a plant needs. Plants get their beautiful green hues thanks to the chlorophyll found in its cells which soaks up light to photosynthesize. If your plant is over exposed to sunlight and loses its happy balance of light, carbon dioxide and water, just like people, it will start to develop a sun burn. On the opposite side of the spectrum, if your plant is not getting enough light, the chlorophyll inside your plant will stop working efficiently and your leaves will become dull with bleached spots.
Depending on your plant’s preferences, make sure you place them in a spot where they will receive the correct amount of light to live a happy and healthy life. Scorched leaves can be trimmed with a pair of sharp scissors to avoid your plant trying to get water to the burned areas while dull, bleached plants will transform back to its original splendor when placed in indirect sunlight. With time and practice, your plant family will prosper and thank you with their beautiful hues and foliage.
